Some motorists might absent-mindedly drive off from a fuel station forgetting to pay for their fuel, while others deliberately drive off without paying.
We Don’t Buy Crime ‘Have you paid for your fuel’ signs are displayed at fuel stations right across the West Mercia Police area reminding people to pay for their fuel. The initiative helps identify those who drive off deliberately, who are often involved in wider serious and organised crime, and warn them police are watching them.
A key part of the initiative is upskilling staff so they know what do if someone does drive off without paying for fuel and the information police will need. Staff are also trained to spot the signs of criminal exploitation, including child sexual exploitation, modern slavery, or county lines, as well as watch out for signs of human trafficking.
